Saturday August 18th marked the Airdrie Flying Club’s second annual fly-in event. Unfortunately heavy cloud cover to the north kept many of the expected participants away. The low
ceilings also obscured most of the airports used in the morning Poker Run. Regardless, the event pressed on, with excellent weather and blue skies at Airdrie.
Eventually 10 visiting airplanes would arrive, from a replica World War I fighter, to a Boeing Stearman and a brand-new LSA by Flight Design. A planned display of local hot rods and
show cars failed to materialize, but a new Yamaha motorcycle, and a 1953 M38 Jeep from the Canadian Army were on display.
Following the barbeque lunch some of the local pilots took off to enjoy the clearing skies, and by mid-afternoon, most of the visitors had departed. The final event was a series of
low passes by the Sunwest Aviation Stearman.
