The official eNewsletter of the CALGARY MOSQUITO SOCIETY
Retain, Restore, Honour and Educate
Welcome to Volume 9 (March 15, 2009)
WE'RE LEGAL
YAHOO! After three attempts, we have finally received our incorporation papers from the provincial government. We can now elect officers, open a bank account and
get on with the business of the society. In light of that, we have scheduled our
FIRST MEETING as a legally incorporated organization for Wed., March 25 @ 7 p.m. at the Phoenix Foundation, #1, 2821 - 3 Ave. N.E. (just NE of Barlow and Center
Ave., or north of Memorial on 28th Street). We will need to elect officers and plan our strategy for the next 7 months. Bring a friend, new supporter, interested party, etc.
Thanks to Barry Davidson for providing the space. And as an added bonus, we will finally get the chance to share with YYC area members and supporters, Betty Campbell's great DVD on
the early post-war days of aerial survey work in Canada.

233 DAYS AND COUNTING. That is how many days until November 4, 2009. That is the date on which the Community and Protective Services Committee of City Council meets
to vote on the proposals concerning the future of the Mosquito. Our job, for the next 233 days, is to do everything we can to insure a "YES!" vote to our proposal. Lets make it
easy for them to vote "YES!" by putting together the expertise, space, funding, etc., to see that CF-HMS is retained and restored here, where she belongs!
HOW CAN YOU HELP? It will aid our cause and efforts to know what interests, skills and resources you can bring to bear. Please see the attachment to this
newsletter. Bring it with you if you can attend the meeting on the 25th, or return by email if you cannot.
MEETING WITH ALDERMAN PINCOTT, WARD 11. Thanks again to Barry Davidson for arranging a meeting with Alderman Pincott three weeks ago. It was invaluable in gaining
some insight into city hall workings and advice on how best to put our case forward to the decision makers at City Hall in the next 233 days. Thanks to Alderman Pincott for his time
and for his frank and helpful perspectives.
CONDOLENCES TO THE BALCOM AND KERNS FAMILIES, who last month lost their father Robert Kerns, a Lancaster navigator with 166 Squadron. It is to he and his mates that
we owe honour for their service and sacrifices.
OUR THANKS to Alan Botting for providing his photos of Spartan Mosquito CF-HMK, which he took in Edmonton in 1956. I know our Web Master, Trevor, is in the midst of
moving to a new house, so look for updates to the site in a couple of weeks. Also thanks to Reg Garnett for the news that Bob Jens' Mosquito CF-HML has not yet left Vancouver for
Victoria due to weather and tug operator issues. Also a nod to Al Johnson (and a couple of others) for noting that the great Wanaka (NZ) Air Show, at which Jerry Yagen is aiming to
fly his new Mosquito KA114, is next held in April 2010, not 2009.
FAT FINGERED COMPUTER OPERATOR WIPES OUT EMAIL ADDRESS BOOK. Yes, me. I have rebuilt out contact list from paper records and since learned about the joys of
'saving' and 'back up'. If you have received this notice in error, or wish to be removed from this list, bounce back and I will delete you (or at least your email address from this
contact list).
PLEASE take a moment now to fill out the attachment and return your responses to me, or bring it with you on March 25. As always, my thanks for your patience,
passion, willingness and encouragement. I hope to see you on the 25th. Always open to your input, advice, discussion and ideas.
