Welcome to Volume 2 (November 1, 2008)

A special WELCOME to our new members: If you are new and didn't get #1, let me know and I will wire a copy to you. (Hope you can read morse code... ;)

TITLE SEARCH is complete and we are now free and legal to call ourselves the Calgary Mosquito Society. Next step is incorporation. Could take a couple of weeks. If you sent me a cheque for membership, THANK YOU and please be a little patient as I cannot open an account until I can take an incorporation certificate to the bank.

CITY HALL MEETING: City staff posted an agenda and reports to the City of Calgary website on Friday in advance of the committee meeting on Wednesday, November 5. Sadly someone forgot to push the right buttons and the links to the reports don't work. A big THANK YOU to Peter Cromer for spending all Saturday afternoon in order to get access to the report. In short it asks the committee of City Council for a year to examine all options and to make recommendations on what to do with the Mosquito and Hurricane. It recommends that the Aerospace Museum be responsible for the process and recommendations. Sounds like asking the fox for the best way to cook chicken. If you can, please attend the meeting on Wednesday, November 5 @ 9 a.m. and have your say. Any member of the public is allowed 5 minutes to speak on the issue. Old City Hall building. Ask the commisionaire for the Community and Protective Services committee meeting. Usually held in the basement. And yes, it can take all day. Since we can't link from the internet, I have attached a copy of the report.

A WEBSITE. I've been working with and for not-for-profit societies for over thirty years. In my experience there is never a shortage of good ideas. Unfortunately most of them come from very well meaning supporters who start with the phrase, "You know what you should do...". I love people who take initiative. In this case, another huge THANK YOU to Trevor McTavish for creating a website for the Calgary Mosquito Society. He just went ahead and did it and then told me about it. Too cool! Check it out at http://www.trevormctavish.com/calgarymosquitosociety/mainpage.htm It is under construction and we will get a proper domain name, etc, but as someone said today, 'If you ain't on the web these days, you don't exist'. We exist. Thank you Trevor. You and Peter are my heros du jour.

FUNDRAISING OFFER. New member Larry Milberry of CANAV Books fame, has offered his massive three volume set, CANADA'S AIR FORCE AT WAR AND PEACE, as a fundraising tool for the Mosquito Society. If you order through our society, we get a very sizeable share of the profit. Check it out at http://www.canavbooks.com/Publications/CAFWP/Vol1/ Just in time for you know what...(ho, ho, ho). THANK YOU, Larry.

Shoot back with questions, ideas or whatever.

A final thanks to you for your membership, interest and faith in this good cause.
